How to Customize the Command Prompt Window

Most folks just use the command prompt window "as is." Did you know that you can customize its appearance and properties? It's not obvious, since there are no menus at the top of the window, but if you right click in the title bar, you'll see several selections.

To change the size of the command window for just the current window, do this:

1. Right click the title bar and select Properties.
2. Click the layout tab.
3. In the Window Size section, set the desired width and height (in pixels). The default size is 80(W)x25(H).

To change the size for all windows, right click the title bar, select Defaults, and follow steps 2 and 3.

You can also change the colors of the screen text, background and popups. Tired of thinking of the command window as the "dark place?" How about black text on a white background. Just change your colors by clicking the Colors tab.

Birds and the Bees

Every now and then I get a funny email that just have to share with you the readers of my little spot on the web. I pick this one because it is update to the way we as a generation date today.

Birds and the Bees
Little boy goes to his father and asks "Daddy, how was I born?" The father answers: "Well, son, I guess one day you will need to find out anyway! Your Mom and I first got together in a chat room on Yahoo. Then I set up a date via e-mail with your Mom and we met at a cyber-cafe. We sneaked into a secluded room, where your mother agreed to a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall, and since it was too late to hit the delete button, nine months later a blessed little Pop-Up appeared and said: You've Got Male!

Call For Help is BACK!

Yes that is right Call For Help is Back! The company that cancelled it is bringing it back to the US. It has been on the air in Canada for the past year. After receiving many complaints and requests to bring the show back, they have given into us fans. The show will start airing Aug 29, 2005 on G4 weekdays at 11a Eastern/8a Pacific and weekends at 6 and 7a Eastern. If you have not been one of the many watching the bit torrent version of the show, the show has changed slightly. It follows more closely the old "The ScreenSavers" format. Along with two new co-hosts Amber MacArthur and Andy Walker. You can also see old favorites like Kevin Rose, Alex Lindsay, Steve Gibson, Mr. Excel Bill Jelen and Dick DeBartolo.

Get the Shared Computer Toolkit

Microsoft's new utility for managing and securing computers that are shared among multiple users was designed with public computers (in schools, libraries, Internet cafes, etc.) in mind. However, the toolkit also has features that make it useful for managing "family" computers, including controls that make it easy to prevent children from accessing certain programs such as Windows Messenger or from changing the computer's configurations or running inappropriate programs, and even lets you apply a session timer to a child's computer use to control the amount of time kids can spend on the computer. The beta is a free download and you can read more about it here.

Tip to get rid of the Blogger NavBar

==Edited and Updated==

Since I have started my little blog I have always looked for ways to personalize it and make it my own. I learned many things and incorporated them into this site. My latest discovery I would like to share with all those that use Blogger. On every Blogger site at the top you will find the Blogger NavBar. While the NavBar can be useful, it can make it hard to see some text or pictures you might have at the top of your blog because they are partially hidden by the NavBar. Here is a solution written to be XHTML 1.0 Strict! Post these lines of code in your template. First copy and paste this line of code
.hide { display: none; }
somewhere between the

and

tags. Then copy and paste this line of code

right after the

tag in your template. Now you can be both NavBar free and still keep your blog XHTML 1.0 Strict! This tip will work in IE 6.0, Mozilla 1.7.8 and FireFox 1.0.6.
